Advanced Drunk and Impaired Driving Prevention Technology
Slipped into the latest infrastructure build was requiring a drunk and impaired driving prevention system in every new car in the US starting in 2026.
These are some things that the system would be able to do (taken straight from the bill):
(A) can-- (i) passively monitor the performance of a driver of a motor vehicle to accurately identify whether that driver may be impaired; and (ii) prevent or limit motor vehicle operation if an impairment is detected; (B) can-- (i) passively and accurately detect whether the blood alcohol concentration of a driver of a motor vehicle is equal to or greater than the blood alcohol concentration described in section 163(a) of title 23, United States Code; and (ii) prevent or limit motor vehicle operation if a blood alcohol concentration above the legal limit is detected; or (C) is a combination of systems described in subparagraphs
So there are two sides to this. Having the system look at your driving and limit the abilities or stop your car if it believes you are impaired. It can also passively detect if you have a blood alcohol level over .08, and do the same in this scenario.
Some immediate questions I had were if spirited driving would cause the system to believe you were intoxicated? How can they constantly measure your blood alcohol levels? What if you aren’t intoxicated and the system stops you from driving your car? How can this be overridden? How will it ensure that you are able to pull over somewhere safe if your car were to go in limp mode?
There are a lot of technical problems that need to be overcome here to make this worthwhile. What are your thoughts on this?

F1 This Week
This week’s F1 race was simply put a shit show. The Steward played a big part in the outcome, but with a lot going on, I would recommend catching the replay on the ESPN app because I frankly couldn’t iterate it in writing well enough this week.
I can say though, Hamilton ended up winning the race (with the help of the Steward) and Max came in second.
The standings now look like this:
While tied in points, Max currently holds the lead over Hamilton due to having 9 wins vs the 8 wins of hamilton. The final race of the season is in Abu Dhabi this Sunday to determine the Champion.
Tiffany and Patek
This has to be one of my favorite pairings yet. Tiffany and Patek have joined together to create a Nautilus with a Tiffany Blue dial for Tiffany’s 170th anniversary.
We have recently seen colored dial Nautilus’s fly up in price. Green dials fetching 400k+, Green dials with diamonds fetching 850k+.
With a limited number of these watches being produced - 170 commemorating Tiffany’s anniversary - these watches will be sure to fetch a premium once hitting the gray market. Some expect it to fetch 1M+.
What are your thoughts on it?
